Grade 12 > Grade 12 Video Projects
Drama or Comedy
A comedy film is a humorous story that is intended to make the audience laugh, whereas a drama introduces a set of circumstances or an event that explores serious, emotional or psychological content. The strength of a drama is mainly developed through character interactions. The filming technique of this video will concentrate primarily on dialogue, therefore, it will be reduced to "talking heads", but at the same time, the content of the dialogue should make it exciting.

Action
In producing an action adventure genre, you will use your skills to create a sense of thrill and excitement, in particular, you will employ advanced editing techniques. An action adventure usually sets up situations for fast moving action: a chase, a quest, a race against time, encountering obstacles on the way to someplace important, just to name a few. The story line actually makes excuses for action to take place. It should be fast paced and well choreographed.
According to John Truby
According to John Truby
- Given the choice of fighting or fleeing, the hero always fights.
- Why fight? Ya gotta do what you gotta do.
- The emphasis is the hero’s ability to take action.
- The emphasis is on split second timing.
- The hero must improvise when the plan doesn’t work or is thwarted. It’s because the plan doesn’t work and that the hero does something DIFFERENT, it proves how good of a hero he or she is. The hero uses what’s at hand to accomplish what he’s going to do.

Suspense
A suspenseful film is one in which keeps the audience guessing what will happen next. You have to without that “something” from the audience and find the right moment to reveal what is happening. They are fun to make and fun to edit.

Documentary
Please note that with the documentary, the proposal takes place of the synopsis and script.
A documentary usually a one sided presentation of a point of view. It is always based on fact; and it usually involves a variety of discussions with people from their personal point of view. The difference between a news story and a documentary is a new story tells you about a story, while a documentary shows you. In a documentary the one who presents the story, whether they are on camera or off, is secondary to the people who are involved in the story. The content is based on reality, as opposed to hearsay or unsubstantiated speculation, although not all documentaries adhere to such standards. They are true stories that document real events and actual facts. If such facts are questionable, so to is the integrity of documentary. Topics may include a specific topic, a unique person, an event, an incident, a relationship, or everyone’s favourite, something controversial.
